I should preface this past saying that I've never had the eating place version the submitter talks almost. I wanted to like this more than I did, merely most of my feelings most information technology have to do with wanting more lemon flavor (maybe information technology isn't supposed to). Also, it was hard to cutting to look proficient. It could exist that the 24-hour interval I made this we had loftier humidity and even a few raindrops---unusual for a warm July mean solar day in SoCal. Ane mistake I fabricated was to use parchment on the bottom of my springform pan---totally unnecessary and burdensome. I would maybe utilize half milk and half lemon juice in the cake itself, or at to the lowest degree use lemon flavoring in the cake topping. Another thought would be to spritz the acme of the bottom layer of cake with a simple syrup fabricated with lemon juice and carbohydrate. I would utilise a niggling more lemon zest in the foam layer. I will endeavour this again on another solar day! Thank you, CindyAnn!
I love this, it's like my Italian gramma used to make, simply easier because of the cake mix, I used 3tlbs lemon juice and 1 tlb lemon zest every bit her cake called for in the block and it was perfect, I followed the filling every bit it was. Thanks for making this wonderful family favorite so easy.
I knew I'd want a more robust lemon flavour after reading the ingredients. I used a yellow block mix and added a box of lemon pudding to the cake batter. My mother used to add instant pudding to her cakes because it makes them lighter. I also added the juice of ane pocket-size lemon to the cake. I had about 6 ounces of cream cheese left from a box, so I used it all. So, I added slightly more than of he other ingredients for the filling every bit well (cream and sugar), but the biggest change I made was calculation the juice of two minor lemons to the filling rather than the pocket-size corporeality it chosen for. The cake baked upwards beautifully, although I have to say that taking part of the mix out to make the topping made it thinner. I recall in the hereafter I might apply 2 mixes and i.5 times the filling. All of the components taste good separately and the lemon is not overpowering in either the block or the filling. We're excited to try the block tomorrow.
While I yet prefer the restaurant version, this was delicious. I've fabricated information technology twice. The commencement time I used a lemon cake mix because I didn't have white. I also baked it in a 9 ten xiii pan because I was feeding a group of people and needed to be able to serve xviii+ pieces. I was a little worried I wouldn't be able to slice the 9 x 13 cake in half and reassemble the pinnacle layer without it breaking, but surprisingly I had no problem at all. The grouping I fabricated it for really enjoyed the cake and I received requests for the recipe. The 2nd time I followed the directions exactly, including using the springform pan. Both times, delicious. I'd like to effort using 8 oz. of cream cheese side by side time equally I think I want a little more foam cheese flavour in the whipped cream filling.
I made this for an Italian family'south Christmas dinner and they loved it! Fifty-fifty Nana gave me a compliment. I don't have a spring pan so I used two 8" cake pans. I likewise wrapped waxpaper around it before chilling to aid it hold its shape until it is thoroughly chilled. I will definitely be making this again.
This was great! Like shooting fish in a barrel to make, light, tasty, and flavorful. I made the recipe equally directed. I can't await to make it for a family outcome.
LOVE THIS RECIPE! I take at present fabricated information technology twice in the terminal few weeks. Information technology's the perfect spring/summertime cake. I have done what others have suggested and added a few tablespoons of lemon juice and a teaspoon or so of lemon zest to the block. Then many compliments and information technology looks lovely!
I loved this recipe, though I did make 1 alter. I added the juice and zest of a whole lemon to the cake concoction. Information technology turned out like a giant lemon bar. It was astonishing.
I made this cake recipe exactly as it is written. Information technology was much easier than I anticipated. I really fabricated information technology late ane evening when I arrived habitation after working a 12 hr shift. Information technology was the centerpiece dessert for an Italian night with a group of friends and it was a big hitting! The block looks impressive and people presume you put a lot of time and effort into whipping information technology up. The truth is with the use of a boxed block mix equally the base it was no more endeavour than baking a cake and making icing. As far as adding additional lemon zest and juice. I guess if what yous're looking for is a LEMON cake, so by all means go ahead. We all thought the cake tasted perfect just the way it is. At that place is just a dainty lemon season to the cream. Everyone thought it was the perfect "light" ending to a pasta laden meal. One thing I practise need to add is that I've never had the eating place version of this cake nor did I ever have an Italian Nonni serve it up for me. That being said, I'grand certain nosotros volition be having this exact version of Italian Lemon Cream block at this house again....and once again!
This is a delicious block that has gotten rave reviews from everyone who's had information technology. I wanted a "calorie-free" dessert to serve with a heavy meal and this cake hitting the spot. I recommend letting the cake absurd in the pan as long as possible. The last time I made it I let it set overnight and slicing it in half was so much easier. I didn't dust it with powdered saccharide; the crumbs were a lovely topping.
I mostly followed the recipe but did some tweaking of my ain. Used ii, nine" round baking pans to make information technology easier than cutting the cake in one-half using springform pan, followed white cake instructions on the box instead of the recipe. Used all the block mix (not reserving any for crumb topping) used lemon zest and real lemon juice (from ane whole lemon) in the white cake mix, didn't make the crumb topping (I really forgot - just next time I will use i loving cup confectioners carbohydrate with butter and vanilla to make crumb topping), used 8oz of cream cheese, doubled the confectioners carbohydrate and used 2 1/2 cups heavy whipping foam and zest and lemon juice from another whole lemon for the cream filling. My daughter added pastel colored nonpareils to the side for an Easter holiday look and nosotros dusted powdered saccharide on top.
Definitely good enough to try again nevertheless, my 10 in springform pan made the cake very thin- too sparse to cut in half so I concluded up leaving information technology in the pan and spreading the filling on the top. This took away from the crumbled topping and I couldn't sprinkle with a little extra sugar. It was and then thin that most of the topping ended upward cooking through to the bottom of the block. I did add 3 TB lemon juice and 1 tsp lemon zest to the cake mix every bit others suggested and will do this over again. Next time I will make this in 2 separate round cake pans that are smaller so I can get the layered outcome and the topping. I will update- maybe that will earn the 5th star!
Holy moly this was a delicious cake! I read the reviews before making it and thought I'd want more than lemon flavor and so I fabricated a lemon cake instead of the white cake. I used the zest and juice of a whole lemon and information technology was perfect. I will make this dessert once more and again!
I've never had the eating place version, but this recipe was delicious. I used a total box of block mix, and bought a 2nd box to make the crumbs. (It did non seem enough, otherwise, when you lot take to reserve a loving cup of the cake mix for the crumbs.) Besides, I doubled the crumbs. I did not add lemon to the cake mix, as other reviewers suggested. I liked the subtle lemon flavor in the cream, using fresh lemon juice, lemon zest, and near a 1/two tsp of lemon extract. Unfortunately I used an ix" leap pan (didn't have 10") which fabricated information technology difficult to remove the cake in one piece, since information technology baked over the rim. Nil that a trivial foam couldn't help "glue" back together. Next time, I volition instead utilise two circular cake pans. I will definitely make this again.
01.28.17 ~ I'm not sure what restaurant the submitter is referring to in the bio about this cake, just we liked it. I just had a lemon cake mix at home, and so I went with that, merely kept the residual of the recipe the same. I am huge fan of cold cakes (more so than my DH) so I enjoyed it right from the fridge. My DH permit his come to room temp before enjoying his. A squeamish block with a pleasant gustation and a very nice presentation.
We have this block as a standard in our house now for special occasions. Totally awesome! This block does not terminal very long in our firm. Cheers so much for a dandy recipe. I always brand a recipeas is a few times and then modify to adjust our family unit needs and wants. After making it every bit per the recipe iv times, I did make a few changes as we are lemon lovers. Subtract the loving cup of milk by 1tbsp and supplant with fresh lemon juice. I replaced the vanilla with almond extract to heighten the lemon. Also add the zest of one lemon to the cake batter. The crumb mix decrease the butter past 1/two tbsp. every bit nosotros like information technology a little more than crumbly. The icing sugar I decrease a bit. I use i/3 cup in the cream cheese mix and when I combine the whip cream and the cream cheese, I add icing saccharide to sense of taste...we prefer a not as well sweetness filling and icing.
This was very expert, its easy to prepare. I had fresh squeezed lemon juice just no zest and information technology was all the same yummy. I didn't use a spring class pan just a ix inch cake pan and it was perfect. Cindy Evans
I was in a super rush when I made this the start time. I added all the sugar to the cream cheese and whipped it all together, totally forgetting the cream part. I had wondered why it didn't yield that much filling, so I duplicated my error 3 times to brand a 4x batch. My guests loved it. When I had time to make another cake I did and so at a slower pace and realized my mistake. When my family and I tasted the correctly made cake nosotros all unanimously stated the 1st 1 was a lot improve. While the cake following the recipe tasted corking, my cake made incorrectly blew this ane away. Exercise yourself a favor, after making one correctly with this recipe, make another one quadrupling the filling portion WITHOUT the heavy cream.
Really enjoyed this recipe! Made information technology for Easter and it was a striking! I followed the recipe exactly every bit written. To me the lemon was subtle, then if yous want more of a lemon season you could exercise what some people suggested and add lemon to block mix.
I made no changes to the recipe, it was incredibly good simply equally published. This is a cake for a special occasion, and it presents beautifully.
Recipe was very like shooting fish in a barrel to make. Delicious and not too sweetness!
Delicious! I sold this at a cake sale. Information technology was bought and shared immediately. I got so many compliments.
This was good and simple. I needed more than robust lemon flavor, though, and then I added lemon zest to the white block, and more lemon juice, lemon zest and natural lemon extract to the frosting. It was tasty, and information technology did hold up well. It kept in my refrigerator for several days afterwards it was cut, and as long as the plastic wrap was kept tight, it stayed moist with a fragile nibble
This cake is admittedly wonderful! I found it very refreshing and sophisticated. The cake is fluffy, and the foam is simply heavenly. Everyone who tried information technology at the party was impressed, and I have plans to make it for my next family go-together. :) And probably many more after!
Made no changes. the cake was outstanding. Tin't wait to make information technology again.
this was probably the most complicated cake I've done. that said it was easier than I thought it would exist. I want to note if you don't have a spring form pan you can gather this on plastic wrap and wrap it up tight for shape. Foam cheese really has to be soft and I recommend calculation some zest to the cake batter. mt oven needed more than cooking fourth dimension besides. Other than that it was exactly as advertised.
This is fantastic! I fabricated it for a family unit become-together and multiple generations all agreed it as a definite "keeper". I started this recipe and and then realized my lemon wasn't proficient, and so I just substituted existent lemon juice, some dried lemon skin, and a drop of lemon extract in place of the fresh lemon juice and peel. It nevertheless turned out wonderful. As well, I had used 2 Tbsp of the heavy cream for another recipe already, but the rest was enough to make a thick, rich foam. I was likewise able to hurry it along a bit by cooling the block near 20 minutes on the counter, removing information technology from the pan, covering it loosely then putting the cake in the freezer for about xxx minutes. At that point, I was able to slice it merely fine and it was not longer warm, and so I could add the foam filling and refrigerate while we ate our meal. It may have been better if I as able to allow information technology sit and the flavors alloy longer, but in a bustle this worked for me. I volition definitely go far again when I'yard not having to rush to put together a big meal for a lot of people. My MIL loves lemon and I wanted something a little unlike that wasn't a ton of trouble. This fit perfectly! Thanks so much for this great recipe! I call back I will try it with some other flavored fillings too, though I prefer not to utilise block mixes likewise much, except when I need things kept simple.
Perfect dessert after a dinner of lasagna, roasted vegetables and tossed salad. I used 8 oz. of cream cheese. The lemon flavour is subtle and delicious. Nice textures with cake, crumb and cream. Always a winner when guests ask for the recipe.
Loved information technology! Fabricated it for my moms birthday, and everyone loved it. I made it equally directed.
BEST DESSERT EVER! I make this for all get togethers and for simply our family! People love it! I fifty-fifty had someone who is an awesome bakery enquire his wife if I had bought it. I saw where a reviewer said it was a nice light cake, I personally feel like it is an awesomely rich cake.
Loved this cake. Was a big striking at a dinner party. Make sure you lot crush whipped cream to a very stiff consistency. I added 1oz more foam cheese simply followed the recipe exactly. YUM
I liked this every bit written. It has a overnice, calorie-free lemon flavour, much more than would have been overpowering for what it is supposed to exist. I did use fresh lemon juice and zest, that really made the cake something special.
Loved this cake! I did utilise a lemon cake mix instead of white, and I put 2 teaspoons of lemon zest and a tablespoon of lemon juice in the topping mixture. It was excellent!
This was delicious. I followed the directions equally written. The simply affair I would do different is I would set and bake two cake pans instead of using a springform pan. Information technology was a huge hit and I'll exist making it once more
Delicious! A new favorite. I used a lemon block mix and a little extra lemon in the filling. Will definitely be making over again!
I fabricated this cake this morning. I normally like to follow the recipe the first time making something. But this was for our son's girlfriend's birthday. She loves lemon and she loves this block. Information technology was a little difficult to cut the block in two horizontally. Next time I'grand going to use two 8" block pans instead.
My family unit loved this cake!!! Although, I added my ain little twist to this cake by using lemon cake mix, instead of white cake mix. It was succulent!! Particularly if you love lemon flavored cakes!!
Making this was a piece of cake. Ha! The directions were very easy to follow. It came out exactly as pictured. I will be making this again.
I've made this a few times and have added lemon zest and lemon juice to block mix and its been a hit every time!!!
The only change, I used a yellow cake mix equally that's what I had in the pantry. I took this to a reunion appetizer/dessert party with all women and they loved it. Janet P.
Yum! With the advice of others, I added more lemon juice to the batter, cooked in ii 8" pans and added more cream cheese. As it was a birthday cake, I ended up frosting the meridian with the filling as well. My step son who is 22 yrs old and never makes comments, actually stated how good information technology was and how the lemon flavor was so nice.
I'1000 pitiful but I seriously can't take whatever block recipe seriously when it lists boxed cake mix every bit an ingredient. This was a apartment and incredibly sorry version of the eatery cake mentioned. That cake happens to be my very favorite past the way. I tried this just hoping that it would exist a cost effective mode to enjoy my favorite treat. I should have known meliorate. I think the restaurants block has lemon in more just the center, it is so flavorful and creamy.
Going by previous reviews I decided to double the lemon zest then information technology would be a stronger lemon taste. That was a proficient idea. The gustatory modality was perfect. Instead of putting all the filling in between the layers I put a lilliputian over one-half in the centre and the rest on the sides. That made information technology look better with the crumbles and powdered sugar sprinkles on top. It was good and volition brand again.
Very piece of cake and fast to make. I served information technology at a dinner party last night and my guests loved it. The cake goes well with the silky texture of the cream. I used an extra tablespoon of lemon juice and more than lemon zest, and it gave the cream a great flavor.
This cake was simply astonishing. I followed directions w/o making any changes with the exception of using a nine 1/2 springform pan as I didn't have a 10". Still came out perfectly. I will definitely be making this once again.
Love information technology!
I've made information technology twice so far.
I fabricated this cake for a family dinner. Everyone loved it. It's easy to make but looks like you spent more time making it. Can't await to make over again.
This cake is beautiful and flavorfully well balanced. Not too sugariness, non too tart. I volition definitely make it again.
Could easily get past with half the filling. I did double the powdered sugar on the 2d cake I fabricated. This is my favorite cake, hands down!
Very light and refreshing. I added some raspberry jam nether the cream but I recall strawberries would be meliorate. If you want more lemon zing, add some juice to the block batter or only make lemon cake. The filling is just Devine
Yum! Made for Dad's birthday & the whole family unit loved information technology. Fabricated a few changes - added few tbsp lemon juice & a cup of plain yogurt to cake mix. I didn't bother with the crumb topping. Had added some other cup of heavy cream & another tbsp of lemon to the filling - and so I had enough to put on elevation instead of crumb. The filling is so calorie-free & lemon fresh!! And so like shooting fish in a barrel, volition brand this again.
Excellent recipe! The simply alter I fabricated was using a xanthous cake mix instead of white.
I added a more fresh lemon juice to the filling, otherwise I followed the recipe. Although information technology turned out in my favor, the amount of filling was too generous. Since I had besides baked lemon cupcakes that needed frosting I had more than enough to fill the block and frost 12 cupcakes. The cake was a party-pleaser. Quite "calorie-free" and very tasty. I would make information technology once more.
I've never made a cake before, non even a canvass cake. I bought a springform pan for this, thinking yay I'll make cheesecake sometime. It turned out wonderful, very light and summery taste. I did flour the pan, and put a flake of lemon juice and zest in the cake, merely otherwise I followed the recipe. Sure is scary cut a block in half though hahaha.
Made this today for my family, it was a huge success. They loved it. It is very easy and non overly sweetness.
I made this for a dinner group and it was enjoyed by all. I used a lemon cake mix, next time I'll endeavor a white mix. I used a scrap more cream cheese than chosen for. The filling had a nice tang to it. I found cutting the block and moving the pieces very tricky. It didn't look like those pictured, very tasty however.
I made this for Easter and my family loved information technology. I added 3 tablespoons of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of zest to the cake batter. And then good and perfect for spring.
I followed the recipe and this block was so delicious! No changes needed. Anybody loved information technology and I will definitely brand this once more!!
Fantabulous. I did accept some liberties based on other suggestions and experience w the alterations. I used 2 cake mixes separately. Took the 1 c of mix out for topping as directed in recipe. For the other cake mix I added an additional egg and liquids and a package of instant lemon pudding. For the other cake mix I added 1/two a package of instant lemon pudding and I used the other 1/two in the cream cheese and whipping cream mixture. The frosting for the layers ( I have three when done ) holds upwards better w the instant pudding and adds more lemon flavour. I used a spring pan for the whole block mix then cut information technology in half. The other fractional mix made the other layer. I adorned it with raspberries and dusted due west powdered saccharide. Everyone RAVED well-nigh it. Thanks for posting.
Wonderful recipe. I added more than lemon and made it in a loaf pan with two layer of cream. It was a hitting!
Actually enjoyed this cake and then did our dinner guests. I did one-half the cream and it was great. Very light and fluffy.
Yes I will go far again!
Followed the recipe as indicated with the simply change existence added more lemon zest a bit more than lemon juice. A big hit and surprisingly nice in the not too sugariness section. Will for sure make this over again. Thanks for posting.
Absolutely better then Olive Garden!! Everyone asking me to make it again. Thanks for this bang-up recipe! Very easy to make.
Expert dessert and fairly simple to brand. The cake could employ some lemon flavor to assistance out. Cheers for sharing!
I fabricated this for a birthday cake for one of my neighbors and everyone absolutely loved it. 4 people asked me for the recipe that very evening!
Wonderful block family loved information technology even a grandson who eats very few sweets .
Information technology was Nifty! Will brand it once again.
No substitutions, but I didn't add lemon zest considering I didn't have on hand. Still fantastic!
Easy, delicious and a hit with everyone! I made another Italian lemon cream block from this website and it was far more complicated as the nibble mixture was on the entire cake- having it but on the top was not bad! I did add lemon zest to the actual cake as some reviews said that the cake itself was a little boring. I may try using a lemon cake mix side by side fourth dimension and see how that turns out because we LOVE lemon! Dandy recipe and I volition definitely do it once more!
This was delish! I followed the advice of another review and didn't brand the crumble on the tiptop.
This was a beautiful block. So moist and creamy. It was also a major striking at a company go together.
am I missing something? this was unpleasant. won't make this one again, sorry
My new favorite cake. Information technology was a striking!!
I will go far once again, this cake is splendid. I did not change anything.
I followed the recipe exactly the beginning time, and found that in a ten inch springform the block was rather thin/brusque, making slicing into 2 a little tricky,.. so i tried once again with 9inch springform and information technology was taller and easier to piece in two after release . Absolutely delicious cake with afternoon tea or absolutely anytime bluntly!
absolutely succulent! I made a few changes based on the reviews. I added a lilliputian flake more of lemon zest and lemon juice in the batter and the whipped foam and used almost one-half of the powdered sugar and used low fat cream cheese because that'southward all I had. I am definitely going to arrive merely like that once again!
This cake went faster than the pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving!
Cake is fantastic! Used lemon juice, lemon excerpt and lemon zest in block concoction. (we like lemon!!) Adjacent time, I am going to spread raspberry jam on bottom layer before spreading the foam filling on cake bottom! Yum!
Surprisingly skilful (and like shooting fish in a barrel)!
Beyond delicious! This recipe is a keeper! Light and airy with a hint of lemon. The crumbs on tiptop really add to the flavour and texture of the cake. Don't be afraid to eat this before refrigerating... I sliced it up as shortly as it was frosted! It was a crowd pleaser.
I would absolutely make this once again. Brought to a potluck and information technology was a hitting. Has to literally steal 2 piece to bring back to my guys that were counting on a slice. Apparently smelling it cooking and and then being taken away was torture. I couldn't find my springform pan, I used two nine" rounds. It worked out perfectly, cooked up in 15 minutes, the one with the crumb topping took a few more than minutes.
This may exist the best tasting cake I've ever made. The but thing I had to change on the recipe was, when I fabricated the crumb topping, it did not come up out very crumbly. I added about a tablespoon of flour to the dough and managed to crumble information technology some. Not sure what I did wrong. Only it yet tasted peachy. I may endeavor the powdered carbohydrate on fourth dimension adjacent time.
I wound upwardly doubling the recipe and using whipped cream topping (2 cups heavy whipping cream,
