why is my car ac compressor constantly running

Year: 96
Brand: Ford
Model: Explorer
Engine Size: four.0
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Ambient Temp: 77
Pressure Depression: thirty
Pressure level High: 160

My a/c compressor runs constantly now that I put in the total amount of 134a (26oz)....mayhap there's just a scrap more (I have no way of measuring the amount put in but I know it'south over 24oz. (by way of back ground- I R&R the compressor, dryer, orifice and flushed the organisation yesterday).

Yesterday, when there was most 24oz in, with an ambient temperature of 65, the compressor cycled off and on every 8 secs. or then. Pressures were, I think, 145/25.

Should I expect the compressor to be running constantly at present?

If not.....how can I prepare information technology?

Thanks.

The warmer information technology is, the less information technology will cycle.. Is it cooling? cheque the pressures wehen information technology's 80+ degrees Hope this helps..

It doesn't wheel off at all.

The ambient temperature is now virtually eighty. Low humidity....if that matters.

Yes, it's cooling well. But, my mitt isn't freezing in front of the vents. I haven't measured the vent temperature however but it'due south cool (only not freeze-you-to-the-bone). By "cool" I mean that if information technology was ninety out.....I'd be a little concerned that the a/c might non go on me comfortable enough. That'south merely my stance almost the vent temperature.

As I said, yesterday it was cycling off and on quite nicely about every 8 to 10 seconds with an outside temperature of effectually 65 (I recollect that's what information technology was) There actually was just a little less 134a than 24ozs. My organisation calls for 1Lb 14oz (which I interpret as 30oz).

Hope that helps explain my situation a little more than.

Thanks for the assistance.

Enhance the engine RPM to above 1500 with the motel fan on low. It should bike occasionally.

Cycling is an indication of either undercharge, or excess cooling capacity. Systems may non wheel depending on load & condition.

Do a full load test. Doors open, motel fan on highest speed. Run the engine above 1500 RPM for 5 minutes, and record the loftier & low side pressures while the engine is still running to a higher place 1500. Mail the results.

To start with, y'all need to take the correct amount in the system, if you are low, add more til you have the correct amount. Y'all can harm the compressor running it low... As well, experience the inlet and outlet of the evaporator, should be the aforementioned temp, with the outlet (suction side) a little colder.. If that is warmer, yous are undercharged.. Hope this helps..

Alright, hither are the latest readings, practice they appear to be good?

1rst state of affairs......

Ambient temperature- 72
Center dashboard vent temperature- between 39 and 41
Windows all open
A/C switch on MAX AC
Vent fan speed- on the second dot (that is- low speed)
Pressures- 175/20 (compressor off)
eighty/45 (compressor on)

2nd State of affairs.......

Engine RPM- 1500
Vent fan speed- full speed
A/C switch on MAX AC
Center dashboard vent temperature- between 41 and 42
Windows all closed
Pressures- 175/25 (compressor off)
80/45 (compressor on)

3rd situation-

Same as in "2nd situation" except A/C switch on AC (non MAX AC) and......
Pressures- 200/30 (compressor off)....I pretty sure of the Low side number. Seems strange doesn't it?
80/45 (compressor on)

Thanks fellas.
